Unlike the steady leadership fans saw under Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) or Pascal, Hopkins has brought a new level of tension to the firehouse.

The biggest source of conflict, however, has been his ongoing feud with Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney). Interestingly, Hopkins’ resentment isn’t truly directed at Kelly himself—it stems from a grudge against Kelly’s late father, Benny Severide (Treat Williams). According to the story, Benny once played a role in Hopkins being suspended from duty, although the full details behind the incident have yet to be revealed.

While Severide has been away attending leadership training and awaiting the results of his lieutenant promotion process, Hopkins has taken matters into his own hands by filing a formal complaint against him. His actions appear to be aimed not only at blocking Severide’s promotion but also at forcing him out of the Chicago Fire Department (CFD) and Firehouse 51 altogether.
